GARKLAND, Lyman Willard

Lyman Willard Garland was born on December 14th 1903 Willard Carr & Ellen G. [Carlson] Garland in Clam Falls Wisconsin. The family moved to Brookston, Minnesota.

Lyman was the oldest of the four Garland brothers. He was employed before the war at a secret nuclear plant in Hanford, Washington and hurried back to that job after the war. He was recognized by the U.S. Government for his work in the nuclear industry.

Mr. Garland was inducted into the Army on October 23rd 1942, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. He served as a Private First Class (PFC) and a carpenter.

PFC Garland was honorably discharged on October 17th 1944, at Headquarters, Seventh Service Command, Omaha, Nebraska. After the war he returned home and married Thelma Blanche [Yanally] on September 14th in Custer, Montana and they started a family.

Mr. Garland died on April 17th 1996 at 94 years of age. He is buried at North Star Cemetery in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
