Michael J. Karpen

Michael J. Karpen of Eveleth was inducted into the Army on September 22, 1943 at Fort Snelling, Minn. 

He was a Private First Class and a Browning Automatic Rifleman with Company K, 87th Infantry Regiment in the Northern Apennines and the Po Valley, Italy. He was wounded in action on February 20, 1945.

Mr. Karpen received the: Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal with two bronze battle stars, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and one overseas service bar.

He was honorably discharged on December 6, 1945 at Camp McCoy, Wis.
