CHICKA, Michael

Michael "Mike" Chicka was born on July 15th 1922 to George & Staka [Varicak] Chicka. of Hibbing, Minnesota

Mr. Chicka was inducted into the Army in June 8th 1943 out of Ft. Snelling, Minnesota during World War II.

He was involved in the Normandy invasion, landing on D-plus-2 (June 8th 1944) with Company A, 313th Infantry Regiment. He served in the 3rd and 7th Armies. He rose to the rank of Private First Class (PFC)

PFC Chicka was wounded in action and had to be hospitalized in October of 1944. He earned the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart for his service.

He was honorably discharged in December 1945. After the war he returned home. He died on March 5th 1967 at the age of 42 years. He is buried at Good Hope Cemetery in Greenfield, Wisconsin.
