SUNDEEN, Milton Einar 

Milton Einar Sundeen was born on March 8th 1922 to Adolph Fredrick & Alma Olive [Peterson] Sundeen in Adolph, Minnesota. He graduated from Central High School and then from the University of Minnesota

Before going off to war Mr. Sundeen married Lucille Dorothy [Severson] on January 2nd 1943. He entered the U.S. Army on July 17th 1944 at Ft. Snelling in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

He served with Company K of the 276th Infantry Regiment of the 70th Infantry Division. He rose to the rank of Private First Class (PFC).

PFC Sundeen shared the following: "Hit front lines at Forbach, France, in January 1945....Returned to U.S. on the Queen Elizabeth from Southampton, arrived in New York on October 9, 1945."

He earned the following merits during his service:

  • American Campaign Medal,
  • European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 2 bronze battle stars,  -and-
  • World War II Victory Medal.

 

PFC Sundeen was honorably separated from service on April 26th 1946. After the war he returned home to his wife and they started a family.

Mr. Sundeen was a lifetime member of the 70th Division Trailblazers and the Duluth VFW as a World War II veteran. Mr. Sundeen died on September 29th 2011. He is buried at Brimson Cemetery in Brimson, Minnesota.
