Nels E. Johnson

Nels E. Johnson of Gheen, Minnesota was inducted into the Army on October 27, 1942 at Fort Snelling, Minn.

Served as a Technician 4th Grade and radio operator with the 96th Cavalry Reconnaissance Troop during the liberation of the southern Philippines (Liberation) and in the Ryukyu Islands.

Mr. Johnson received the: Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with two bronze battle stars, American Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal with two bronze stars, World War II Victory Medal and two overseas service bars.

He was honorably discharged on January 20, 1946 at Camp McCoy, Wis.
