Norman H. Nelson

Norman H. Nelson of Brittmount was inducted into the Army July 24, 1943.

He was a Private First Class and a voice radio operator in Battery B in the 463rd Parachute Field Artillery Battalion in Rome-Arno, Italy; Southern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He became a prisoner of war in Germany.

"Combat through Alps. Captured at Bastogne, Belgium, spent the rest of the war in Stalag XII A, Limberg, Germany. Weight loss: approximately 40 pounds, work detail every day or night. Bombed and strafed by American planes at least 5 or 6 times. Horrible experience, may it never happen again!"

Mr. Nelson received the: Distinguished Unit Citation, European-African-Middle East Campaign Service Medal with 5 bronze battle stars, American Campaign Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and two overseas service bars.

He was discharged November 2, 1945.
