STROMQUEST, Paul Henry

Paul Henry Stromquist was born on October 29th 1914 to Paul & Emilia [Borman] Stromquist in Duluth, Minnesota.

Mr. Stromquist entered the Army on July 28th 1942. His home at entry was Duluth, Minnesota.

He attended Officer Candidate School and commissioned First Lieutenant.

LT. Stromquest served as a platoon commander with the 157th Engineer Combat Battalion in the European Theater.

"Landed on the Normandy beachhead on D-plus-seven June 1944. Removed land mines and widened roads through St. Mere Eglise. Served in First Army with General Omar Bradley and the Third Army with General George S. Patton, Jr.

"He finished in the Seventh Army with General Mark Clark. He cleared many mine fields and built and repaired bridges across the Mozelle, Seine and Danube rivers. Deployed as an infantry on Siegfried Line during the Battle of the Bulge."

Mr. Stromquist was separated from service on April 19th 1946.

He died on July 30th 2003 in the Benedictine Health Center in Duluth at the age of 88 years old.
