Richard J. Santi

Richard J. Santi was inducted into the Army on April 14, 1944, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Floodwood, Minnesota.

He served as a Private First Class and messenger with Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 387th Infantry Regiment of the 97th Infantry Division in Rhineland and Central Europe.

He shared the following: "We also served in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Czechoslovakia. After the war, we arrived back in the States on June 29, 1945. On August 29, we departed for Japan. After a brief stop in the Philippines, we arrived in Yokohama on September 25, 1945. I arrived back in the States on April 23, 1946."

Mr. Santi was awarded the following: Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two bronze battle stars, World War II Victory Medal, and two overseas service bars.

He was honorably discharged on May 3, 1946, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.
