Robert E. Ring of Virginia, Minnesota enlisted in the regular Navy on Oct. 16, 1942.

He was a Gunner's Mate 2nd Class in the Pacific Theater aboard the destroyers USS Twining (DD 540), USS Owen (DD 536), USS Fletcher (DD 445) and USS YR 49 for anti-submarine duty.

Mr. Ring received the: Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Service Medal with 1 silver and 3 bronze stars (5 campaigns), American Campaign Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal with 2 bronze stars (Leyte invasion, Leyte Gulf), Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Occupation Service Medal (Asia), World War II Victory Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.

He was released from active duty on Dec. 5, 1946.

He retired after 22 years service in the regular Navy and the Naval Reserve, on Sept. 28, 1985.
