Robert L. Oakman of Virginia, Minnesota was inducted into the Army on March 26, 1943.

He was a Technician 5th Grade and a truck driver with the 552nd Anti-Tank Company, 474th Infantry Regiment, serving at Rome-Arno in Italy and in the Rhineland and Central Europe.

He says: "We went up to the Alps to relieve what I think was the 442nd (Regimental Combat team) Japanese regiment that was called to the Battle of the Bulge. With the mule pack artillery, they had many casualties."

Mr. Oakman received the: Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle East Campaign Service Medal with three bronze battle stars, American Campaign Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal and three overseas service bars.

He was discharged on March 28, 1946.
