Robert W. "Bob" Alvar

Mr. Alvar served during World War II in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1938 to 1945. While serving on the USS Calvert APA32 he attained the rank of Boatswain’s mate Second Class. During the war he operated landing craft tanks (LCT) as a part of the U.S. Navy Amphibious forces. He was involved in the landings in Sicily and several islands in the Pacific.

He was born on June 8, 1920 in Duluth, Minnesota. In 1938 he graduated from Denfeld High School.

He died in Duluth, Minnesota on May 1, 2007.
