Roger L. Olson

Roger L, Olson was inducted into the Naval Reserve on March 6, 1943. Home at entry: Duluth, Minnesota.

He served as a Gunner's Mate 3rd Class aboard the USS Stanley (DD478) in Guadalcanal, Saipan, Guam, Philippines, Okinawa (ship was hit by Japanese kamikaze), and Iwo Jima.

Mr. Olson states: " I saw the flag raised on Mount Suribachi."

He was awarded the following: Presidential Unit Citation with bronze star, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with three bronze battle stars, and World War II Victory Medal

Mr. Olson was honorably discharged November 25, 1945, at Treasure Island, San Pedro, California.
