Rudolf C. Berg

Mr. Berg inducted into the Army on April 4, 1942, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Duluth, Minnesota.

He served as a Private First Class and light machine gunner with Company A of the 86th Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division in Northern Apennines, Po Valley, and Aleutian Islands.

He received the following: Combat Infantryman Badge, Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and three overseas service bars.

From the Bronze Star Medal Citation for action April 29, 1945, near Torbole, Italy: "For heroic achievement. During the entire encounter, Private First Class Berg kept his machine gun operating even though its fire could not afford full coverage for the riflemen. The enemy likewise kept up an incessant and withering fire, but by dogged determination, he managed to wrest fire superiority from the enemy enough to force them to keep down and allow the company to advance without sustaining a casualty."

Mr. Berg was honorably discharged on September 24, 1945, at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.
