MATTAS, Rudolph

Rudolph Mattas was born on June 15th 1916 to George & Antonia [Krecova] Mattas in Cicero, Illinois.When Rudy was four, the family moved to Meadowlands, Minnesota, where he attended the Elmer & Meadowlands area schools.

After schooling Mr. Mattas enlisted for military service on October 23rd 1943 at Ft. Snelling in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on November 15th 1943 during WWII.

He was a mess non-commissioned officer with Company D, 327th Medical Battalion in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSGT).

SGT Mattas earned the following merits for his service:

  • Good Conduct Medal,
  • European-African-Middle East Campaign Medal with 3 bronze battle stars,
  • American Campaign Medal,  -and-
  • three overseas service bars.

 

He was honorably discharged on March 23rd 1946 at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.

Mr. Mattas died on August 31st 2008 at 92 years of age in Duluth, Minnesota. He is buried at Meadowlands Cemetery in Meadowlands, Minnesota.
