Ruth E. Murphy (nee Hoyt)

Ruth E. Murphy (nee Hoyt)entered the Army Nurse Corps in September 1942. Home at entry: Tower, Minnesota.

She was commissioned 1st Lieutenant and served as a registered nurse in a staff hospital on the Alaskan Highway.

She also served in an English hospital treating casualties. She went to France in 1944 with the 200th General Hospital unit. After D-Day the beaches were cleared, her unit acted as an evac hospital in Soissons, France, until the war in Europe was over. She was waiting in Marseilles to go to the Pacific when the war with Japan ended.

Mrs. Murphy was discharged in January 1946.
