Stanley John Gaidis  served during World War II in the South Pacific in the U.S. Navy beginning on February 9,1944.

He was assigned to the USS Boston. He survived a kamikaze attack and participated in the Battle for Midway. He was discharged on April 22, 1946.

Mr. Gaidis’ rank was Seaman 1st Class.

He was born in Duluth, Minnesota, in 1926, the son of Joseph and Teckla Gaidis.

“Shipped out of Duluth just a couple weeks before my 18th birthday. Spent almost two years on the USS Boston during World War II. Survived a kamikaze attack. Involved in battle for Midway. Was in Okinawa, Saipan, Iwo Jima, Tokyo Bay, and Eniwetok. Was one of the first ships into Hiroshima after bomb was dropped.”
