LUUKKONEN, Toivo John

Toivo John 'Tuggie' Luukkonen was born on January 28th 1915 to John & Sophia Luukkonen in Sparta, Minnesota.

Mr. Luukkonen was inducted into the U.S. Army on April 30th 1942. Home at entry: Eveleth, Minnesota

He was a cook in the North Apennines, Italy, and Southern France. He rose to the rank of Technician 4th Grade (TEC4).

TEC Luukonen earned the following merits for his service:

  • Good Conduct Medal,
  • European-African-Middle East Campaign Service Medal with 2 bronze battle stars,  -and-
  • five overseas service bars.

 

He was honorably discharged on November 24th 1945 at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. Mr. Luukkonen died on January 9th 1978 at 62 years of age. He is buried at Gilbert Cemetery in Gilbert, Minnesota.
