Victor E. Sarkela was inducted into the Army on June 10, 1943, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. 

He served as a Private with the 605th Training Group of the Army Air Corps in the continental United States.

He was honorably discharged on November 26, 1943 at Sheppard Field, Texas.
