CLARKE, Wallace Claude

Wallace Claude Clarke was born on September 28th 1918 to Wallace George & Edna "Pearl" M. [Stout] Clarke in Duluth, Minnesota. The family moved to Kelly Lake, Minnesota near Hibbing. Before enlisting in the service, he married Kathryn Angela [Kolanczyk] on August 2nd 1941.

Mr. Clarke was inducted into the Army on September 2nd 1942. He was assigned Headquarters Battery, 533rd Anti-Aircraft Automatic Weapons Battalion, serving in Naples-Foggia and Rome-Arno in Italy; the Rhineland and Central Europe. He rose to the rank of Coproral (CPL)

CPL Clarke earned the following merits for his service:

  • Good Conduct Medal,
  • European-African-Middle East Campaign Service Medal with 4 bronze battle stars,  -and- 
  • Five overseas service bars.

 

He was honorably discharged on October 12th 1945.

After the war, he returned home to his wife and they started a family. Mr. Clarke died on March 29th 1970 in Hibbing at 51 years of age. He is buried at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
