Walter F. Miller of Hibbing was enlisted in the Army on February 6, 1941.

He was a Corporal and a truck driver in the 60th Coast Artillery in Corregidor, Philippines.

He was captured by the Japanese during the fall of Corrigedor on May 6, 1942. He was a Prisoner of War in camps at Bilibid, Cabanatuan, Mukden and Manchuria until liberated about August 15, 1945.

Mr. Miller received: The Silver Star Medal, The Purple Heart, Distinguished Unit Citation with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Service Medal with two bronze battle stars, American Defense Service Medal with bronze star in lieu of clasp, Philippine Defense Medal with one bronze star, Army of Occupation Service Medal (Japan), World War II Victory Medal and seven overseas service bars.

He was discharged on May 7, 1946.
