MATTSON, Wilfred Jalmer

Wilfred Jalmer Mattson was born on April 17th 1923 to Jalmer & Edith [Meckolan] Mattson in Chisholm, Minnesota

Mr. Mattson was inducted into the U.S. Army on June 13th 1943 during WWII. Home at entry was Chisholm.

He was a heavy machine gunner with 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division on Luzon. He rose to the rank of Sergeant (SGT).

SGT Mattson earned the following merits for his service:

  • Bronze Star,
  • Combat Infantryman Badge,
  • Good Conduct Medal,
  • Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Service Medal with 1 bronze battle star,
  • American Campaign Service Medal,
  • Philippine Liberation Medal with 1 bronze star,
  • World War II Victory Medal,  -and-
  • four overseas service bars.

 

He was honorably discharged on February 12th 1946. After the war he retuned home.

Mr. Mattson died on May 14th 1970 at 47 years of age in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is buried at Calvary Cemetery in Chisholm.
