William F. Salo

William F. Salo entered the Army on March 23, 1942 at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Home at entry: Biwabik, Minnesota.

He served as a Private First Class and antitank NCO with Headquarters Company of the 899th Tank Destroyer Battalion of the Ninth Infantry Division in Tunisia, North Africa; Naples-Foggia, Italy; Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe.

He was wounded in action on December 12, 1944 in the European Theater.

He was awarded the following: Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with seven bronze battle stars, World War II Victory Medal, and five overseas service bars.

Mr. Salo was honorably discharged on August 8, 1945 at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin.
